New York State is allocating over $9 million to bolster the cybersecurity of its drinking water and wastewater systems. This decision follows recent cyberattacks on water utilities in Michigan and Minnesota, which are currently under investigation by
the FBI. The funding will be distributed to 153 local government projects through the state's SECURE grant program, as announced by Governor Kathy Hochul. The initiative builds on New York's pioneering cybersecurity standards for water systems, introduced in March, and complements a $3.75 billion investment in water infrastructure included in the state's latest budget.
