What's Happening?
The City of Bozeman's Floodplain Administrator has announced a public notice regarding a floodplain development permit application submitted by Hyalite Engineers, PLLC, on behalf of Landern West, LLC. The proposed project involves an underground utility
crossing at 705 South Church Street, which will pass beneath the floodplain and floodway of Bozeman Creek. The project aims to install a bore-and-sleeve crossing to carry sanitary sewer service lines for future townhomes. The installation will use directional boring, ensuring the bore path is buried at a depth twice the calculated scour depth for a 100-year flood event. The project complies with Bozeman's floodplain regulations, and no soil or fill material will be placed within the floodplain or waterbody. Erosion control measures will be implemented to protect Bozeman Creek during construction. The public is invited to review and comment on the permit application until March 23, 2026.
Why It's Important?
This development is crucial as it addresses infrastructure improvements while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. The project highlights the balance between urban development and environmental protection, particularly in flood-prone areas. By adhering to floodplain regulations and implementing erosion control measures, the project aims to minimize environmental impact and protect Bozeman Creek. Public participation in the review process allows for community input and transparency, ensuring that the project meets local standards and addresses any concerns. The outcome of this permit application could set a precedent for future developments in floodplain areas, emphasizing the importance of sustainable and responsible construction practices.
