What's Happening?
The UK government has initiated a search for delivery partners to create a new national forest in the Oxford-Cambridge Corridor. This initiative is part of a broader commitment to plant millions of trees and support the forestry sector with over £1 billion
in funding. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has opened an Expression of Interest process for organizations with expertise in large-scale woodland creation. This forest will be the second of three planned national forests, following the Western Forest.
Why It's Important?
The creation of a new national forest represents a significant investment in environmental sustainability and biodiversity. It aims to bring nature closer to urban areas, support wildlife, and create green jobs. This initiative aligns with the UK's broader environmental goals and commitments to combat climate change. The involvement of experienced partners will be crucial in ensuring the success of this large-scale project.
What's Next?
Interested organizations have until January 30, 2026, to submit their Expressions of Interest. The selection of suitable partners will be a critical step in advancing the project. Once partners are chosen, detailed planning and implementation will begin, with a focus on community engagement and sustainable practices.
