The Orland Park Village Board is contemplating the creation of a tax increment financing (TIF) district to encourage development at the southeast corner of 159th Street and LaGrange Road. This follows the recent approval of an Amazon retail center at the intersection's
southwest corner. Mayor Jim Dodge indicated that Inter-Continental Real Estate & Development requires financial assistance to develop the area behind Pep Boys Auto Service and Tires into residential and commercial spaces. Previously, the developer proposed an apartment complex that did not need village support, but the board rejected it. Trustee Cynthia Katsenes supports the TIF district, preferring owner-occupied rowhomes over high-density apartments. The board has ordered a feasibility study for the TIF and purchased a former gas station site for potential development. Additionally, the board approved the purchase of the former Riviera Country Club for $2.2 million, considering its conversion into an athletic field house. Trustee John Lawler emphasized the need for more accessible athletic amenities for residents on the east side of Orland Park.
