resets as it transitions between different environments. Researchers conducted virtual reality experiments with 74 participants who navigated through computer-generated 3D rooms while memorizing objects. Initially, no threshold effect was observed, but when participants' cognitive load was increased by having them count backward, the effect became apparent. The study suggests that the threshold effect is more pronounced when the brain is already at cognitive capacity, and it is influenced by the perceived difference between environments rather than the physical act of passing through a doorway.
