What's Happening?
Rakuten Symphony has secured a grant from Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) to support its collaboration with Ukrainian telecom company Kyivstar in expanding Open RAN tests. The project, which initially involved lab tests, will now
move to field tests in Kyiv, focusing on 4G/5G configurations. The grant will cover half of the project's estimated cost of $4.3 million. This initiative aims to demonstrate the benefits of open, cloud-native networks and evaluate 5G capabilities for potential future deployment.
