Researchers at Northwell Health's Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research have developed an AI-powered wearable system that predicts patient deterioration in hospitals. Published in Nature Communications,
the study demonstrates that the system can predict adverse clinical outcomes up to 17 hours in advance. The AI model, using data from clinical wearables, identified at-risk patients earlier than standard methods, potentially improving patient outcomes. The system was tested on 888 non-ICU patients, accurately predicting rapid response team activations and unplanned ICU transfers.
