What's Happening?
Franciscan Health is initiating a free speaker series aimed at supporting caregivers of aging family members. The series is designed to provide essential information and emotional support to those caring for elderly loved ones. The sessions will be held
at Franciscan Senior Health & Wellness in Dyer, Indiana, starting on May 14. The first session will focus on strategies for aging at home rather than in a nursing home. Subsequent sessions, scheduled for August 20 and October 8, will address navigating a cancer diagnosis, Medicare enrollment options, and advanced planning topics such as elder law and hospice care. These sessions are free to the public, but registration is required.
Why It's Important?
The initiative by Franciscan Health addresses a critical need for resources and support for caregivers, who often face significant emotional and logistical challenges. As the U.S. population ages, more families are taking on caregiving roles, making access to information and support crucial. This series not only provides practical advice but also helps caregivers manage the emotional aspects of their responsibilities. By offering these sessions for free, Franciscan Health is making these resources accessible to a broader audience, potentially improving the quality of life for both caregivers and their loved ones.
What's Next?
The speaker series will continue with sessions planned throughout the year, each focusing on different aspects of caregiving. Participants can expect to gain insights from experts in elder care, legal planning, and healthcare. The series may also prompt other healthcare organizations to develop similar programs, recognizing the growing demand for caregiver support. As the series progresses, feedback from attendees could lead to the expansion of topics covered or the introduction of additional resources and support networks.
