What's Happening?
The World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) has introduced a new digital course on hospitality, delivered entirely through WhatsApp. This initiative is designed to support professionals, entrepreneurs, and small to medium enterprises (SMEs) in the hospitality and tourism
sector. The course, first launched in Spain, aims to build practical skills in business management, customer service, and the promotion of hospitality and tourism businesses. In partnership with Fundación Mahou San Miguel, the program offers 2,000 free training places to Spanish hospitality professionals. The course is structured around short lessons that cover various aspects of management, digital marketing, customer loyalty, and sustainability, with a focus on local products and experiences. Participants who complete all modules will receive a joint certificate from UN Tourism and Fundación Mahou San Miguel.
Why It's Important?
This initiative represents a significant advancement in digital education within the tourism sector, providing accessible and flexible learning opportunities. By utilizing WhatsApp, a widely used communication platform, the course offers a familiar and convenient format for participants, particularly those with limited time or a preference for mobile-first learning. The program aims to enhance management practices and customer service, promote innovation, and integrate sustainable practices within the hospitality industry. This approach not only strengthens local ecosystems but also enhances the visitor experience, potentially leading to increased tourism and economic benefits for the region.
What's Next?
As the program gains traction, it may expand beyond Spain, offering similar opportunities to hospitality professionals in other regions. The success of this initiative could encourage other sectors to adopt similar digital education models, leveraging popular communication platforms to deliver training. Additionally, the collaboration between UN Tourism and Fundación Mahou San Miguel may inspire further partnerships aimed at enhancing skills and promoting sustainable practices in the tourism industry.
