A statue of RoboCop, the iconic character from the 1987 film, has been installed in Detroit after a 15-year journey. The 11-foot-tall bronze statue, weighing 3,500 pounds, was unveiled in the Motor City, drawing fans despite inclement weather. The project
began in 2010 when a tweet suggested RoboCop as a symbol for Detroit, similar to Philadelphia's Rocky Balboa statue. A Kickstarter campaign in 2012 raised over $67,000 to fund the statue, which was completed in 2017 by sculptor Giorgio Gikas. However, the statue faced delays in finding a permanent location, with the Michigan Science Center initially declining to host it. Eventually, the statue found a home at the FREE AGE film production company in Eastern Market, Detroit.
