A new £6.5 million robotic operating theatre has been completed at the University Hospital of North Tees. The facility, which began construction in February 2024, includes a new 11-bed recovery space for post-operative patients. The theatre is designed
to facilitate less invasive surgeries, particularly in gynaecological and urological procedures, which are expected to lead to quicker recovery times. Consultant surgeon Anil Agarwal highlighted that the new recovery area would improve patient care and flow. The facility also features a training room, an emergency maternity theatre, and additional staff amenities. The project was described as ambitious by Alison Coates, the senior operations manager, due to its construction over a courtyard. The theatre is equipped with the Da Vinci robot, which aids in performing less invasive procedures.
