Victoria's Container Deposit Scheme (CDS Vic) has launched a new initiative to enhance public recycling efforts by introducing bin basket trials in collaboration with local councils. Since its inception
in November 2023, the scheme has successfully returned over 2.3 billion drink containers, generating $234 million in community refunds. The latest phase involves installing public place bin baskets in areas like Yarra Ranges, Mornington Peninsula, and Port Phillip to facilitate on-the-go recycling. These baskets are designed to separate eligible drink containers from general waste, reducing landfill contributions and waste management costs.
