What's Happening?
A community-wide effort in Miami-Dade County, Florida, is transforming the deteriorating home of Edward and Clara Knox in Richmond Heights. What began as a small volunteer initiative has expanded to include numerous businesses and individuals donating
time, labor, and materials. Local 10's Good News South Florida has been tracking the project since April. Recent progress includes the installation of new plumbing throughout the house, with Bob's Plumbing donating approximately $15,000 in labor and materials to replace corroded cast-iron pipes. Additionally, a new roof, valued at about $14,000, has been installed and passed its final inspection, thanks to donations from Level Up Roofing and Polyglass, which supplied underlayment and waterproofing materials worth $4,000. The initiative was sparked by Joe Puentes, a builder and co-founder of the nonprofit WikiVoice, who rallied initial volunteers.

What's Next?

Remaining requirements include attic and wall insulation, electrical materials, interior and exterior lighting fixtures, structural shell work and reinforcement, concrete, interior and exterior paint, an HVAC system with ductwork, exterior stucco, driveway removal and replacement, and landscaping. The community is encouraged to continue donating, with 100% of monetary contributions going directly towards the construction of the Knox home through the Local 10 Fund with The Miami Foundation.
