What's Happening?
The Punjab Skills Development Fund (PSDF) has successfully trained over 1,000 transgender individuals under the Pehchan programme, part of the Chief Minister's Skilled Punjab Initiative. This program aims to provide dignified livelihoods to marginalized communities by equipping them with high-demand skills such as beauty and grooming, culinary arts, performing arts, information technology, handicrafts, and digital freelancing. The initiative has seen more than 980 trainees secure jobs with reputable employers, while others have started their own businesses. The program, launched in November 2024, collaborates with over 18 training service providers and offers holistic support including stipends, travel allowances, and professional toolkits.
