What's Happening?
Dan Wickett, cofounder of Dzanc Books and founder of the Emerging Writers Network blog, passed away on September 15 at the age of 59 due to a heart condition he had been battling for years. Wickett, who was instrumental in establishing the Ann Arbor-based nonprofit press in 2006 alongside Steve Gillis, served as its executive director for nearly a decade before stepping back in 2014 due to health issues. Gillis, who retired as publisher in 2016, praised Wickett as a kind and intelligent individual who never spoke maliciously of others. Dzanc Books plans to continue Wickett's Emerging Writers blog to honor his legacy. Wickett was also known for organizing Brain Candy, a monthly event in Detroit that provided artists with a platform to share their work. A memorial service is scheduled for September 27 in Garden City, Michigan.
