What's Happening?
The 49th annual Easterseals Telethon raised $912,065 for the Easterseals Rehabilitation Center, which serves about 5,000 individuals with disabilities across a 31-county area in Indiana, Kentucky, and Illinois. The telethon aired live from the Easterseals Rehabilitation Center in Evansville,
with ABC 25 and CW 7 donating production and airtime. All proceeds will fund inclusive early education and essential therapy services for children and adults with disabilities. The event featured stories from Easterseals ambassadors and included a declaration by Mayor Stephanie Terry, naming April 17 as 'Easterseals Day' in Evansville.
Why It's Important?
The funds raised by the telethon are crucial for supporting the Easterseals Rehabilitation Center's mission to provide therapy and support services that help individuals with disabilities lead more independent lives. By offering services on a sliding fee scale, the center ensures accessibility regardless of financial ability, which is vital for many families. The telethon also raises awareness about the challenges faced by people with disabilities and the importance of community support in addressing these needs. The event's success reflects strong community engagement and the willingness of local businesses and individuals to contribute to social good.
