France's competition authority, L'Autorité de la Concurrence, is conducting a review of two retailer purchasing alliances, Aura and Concordis, to assess their impact on market competition. These alliances, formed
in the past two years, involve major French and European retailers. Aura includes French grocers Intermarché, Auchan, and Casino, and has joined larger European groups like Everest and Epic Partners. Concordis, launched last year, involves Carrefour and Coopérative U, with Germany's RTG International joining recently. The review will focus on potential competitive risks in both upstream and downstream markets, including supply limitations, quality deterioration, and reduced innovation incentives. The watchdog is also examining the alliances' effects on consumer prices and market coordination. Third parties have been invited to submit comments by March 6 for Aura and July 31 for Concordis.
