The U.S. military has initiated Operation Southern Spear, deploying a significant force to the Caribbean, including thousands of Marines and advanced naval assets, near Venezuela. Announced by Secretary
of War Pete Hegseth on November 13, 2025, the operation aims to eliminate narco-terrorists and curb drug trafficking affecting the U.S. The USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group, featuring F-35C stealth fighters and advanced radars, entered the Caribbean Sea on November 16, 2025. The deployment includes the USS Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, totaling nearly a dozen warships and around 12,000 personnel. Concurrently, joint exercises with the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force are underway, focusing on countering transnational threats and enhancing regional stability.
