What's Happening?
Elbit America has announced the completion of the first SIGMA NG (Next Generation) self-propelled artillery system for the U.S. Army. This development is part of the Army's initiative to modernize its self-propelled artillery capabilities. The SIGMA NG features
a 155mm gun mounted in a remotely operated turret, designed to meet NATO standards and accommodate a wide range of modern ammunition. The system is based on the Oshkosh Defense LVSR 10x10 chassis, ensuring compatibility with existing U.S. Army logistics. The howitzer is operated by a crew of three from a protected cabin, allowing for operations without leaving the vehicle. The SIGMA NG is equipped with an automated loading system, enhancing its rate of fire and operational efficiency. This system is derived from the Israeli Roem program, which is replacing the M109 in the Israeli military.
