Telefónica Germany is conducting tests for 'sovereign' satellite-based direct-to-device mobile texting and voice messaging in the rural region of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. This initiative, in collaboration with Luxembourg-based OQ Technology, aims
to supplement existing terrestrial mobile networks in areas where expanding ground-based infrastructure is not feasible. OQ Technology, known for its IoT connectivity, operates a low-Earth orbit satellite constellation dedicated to direct-to-device services.
