What's Happening?
The Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for its 2027 Local Legislative Affairs Committee (LLAC). This committee offers Chamber members a volunteer opportunity to monitor local policy issues and contribute to fostering a favorable
business environment in Fort Collins and the broader Northern Colorado region. LLAC members are tasked with actively tracking legislative activities and policy developments from bodies such as the Fort Collins City Council and Larimer County Commissioners. Based on their monitoring, the committee develops policy position recommendations on city and county issues, which are then considered by the Chamber’s Board of Directors. The LLAC meets weekly on Fridays at 7:30 a.m. and serves as a forum for discussion and engagement on matters affecting the local business community. Applications are due by November 11, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
Why It's Important?
The Local Legislative Affairs Committee plays a crucial role in shaping the local business landscape and economic vitality of Fort Collins. By providing a structured platform for Chamber members to engage directly with local policy, the LLAC ensures that business perspectives are considered in legislative decisions. This proactive involvement helps to create an environment conducive to business growth, job creation, and overall economic health. The committee's work in developing policy recommendations can influence local ordinances, regulations, and initiatives that directly impact businesses, from small enterprises to larger corporations. This volunteer opportunity empowers business leaders to have a direct voice in local governance, fostering a collaborative relationship between the private sector and local government, which is essential for sustainable community development and quality of life in Northern Colorado.
What's Next?
Applications for the 2027 Local Legislative Affairs Committee are due by November 11, 2026. Following the application deadline, interviews for available positions will be conducted during the subsequent week. The Chamber’s Board of Directors will then make appointments to the committee in early December. Once appointed, LLAC members will begin their one- or two-year terms, actively participating in weekly meetings and monitoring local legislative developments throughout 2027. Their work will involve continuous engagement with policy issues, formulation of recommendations, and collaboration with public and private stakeholders to advance the Chamber's mission of creating a favorable business environment. Interested Chamber members are encouraged to submit their applications to contribute to these ongoing efforts.
