What's Happening?
The African Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI) is sponsoring a special session at the 8th Global Sustainable Phosphorus Summit (SPS8) in Accra, Ghana, from September 30 to October 3, 2025. The session will focus on enhancing global phosphorus efficiency along the mining-use-recovery pathway. It aims to bring together experts to discuss innovations in phosphorus management and address knowledge gaps. Africa's role as a resource hub and thought leader in sustainable phosphorus management is being recognized.
Why It's Important?
Phosphorus is a critical nutrient for food production, and its sustainable management is essential for global food security. Africa, with its vast phosphate reserves, is uniquely positioned to lead discussions on phosphorus innovations. The summit highlights the continent's potential to influence global agricultural and environmental policy. Addressing phosphorus limitations can significantly increase cereal yields and support sustainable development goals.
