What's Happening?
A new initiative has been launched in Cornwall, UK, to test advanced drones within controlled airspaces. Spaceport Cornwall, in collaboration with the National Drone Hub, is utilizing a designated area of airspace to test uncrewed aircraft of various
sizes. This partnership aims to enable drones to operate beyond the visual line of sight of their operators, allowing them to fly further, faster, and for longer durations than typically permitted. The National Drone Hub, recognized as the UK's first Civil Aviation Authority accredited drone test site, offers access to a 320-hectare area with four runways and over 8,000 square kilometers of segregated airspace off the Lizard Peninsula. The collaboration is currently working on a Specific Operations Risk Assessment and plans to submit a full application to the Civil Aviation Authority by March 2026.
