Finnish startup Solar Foods has secured memos of understanding (MOUs) and letters of intent (LOIs) for more than half of the output of its planned commercial scale food production facility, which will
produce protein from 'thin air' via gas fermentation. The company is expanding the output of its pilot facility from 160 tons/year to 230 tons/year, with phase one of its large-scale facility set to be operational in 2028. The construction will be carried out in three phases, with strategic partners contributing significant funding. Solar Foods aims to produce Solein, a protein-packed product, as an alternative to whey protein, targeting nutritional fortification in various food products.
