What's Happening?
Mercy Corps is enhancing its financial management capabilities for the Caribbean Resilience Initiative (CRI), which aims to address climate change impacts in the region. The Finance Officer will support financial management across multiple Caribbean jurisdictions,
including Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and the US Virgin Islands. The role involves managing accounting, budgeting, and compliance functions to ensure adherence to Mercy Corps policies and donor regulations. The CRI focuses on building community resilience through projects that protect lives, livelihoods, and natural resources, supported by over $34 million in funding since 2016.
Why It's Important?
The Caribbean is highly vulnerable to climate change, with small island states facing significant environmental risks. Mercy Corps' financial management efforts are crucial for ensuring that resources are effectively utilized to build resilience in these communities. By strengthening financial oversight and compliance, the Finance Officer helps ensure that projects are implemented efficiently and transparently. This is vital for maintaining donor confidence and securing future funding. The CRI's focus on resilience-building is essential for helping Caribbean communities adapt to climate change and protect their livelihoods and ecosystems.
What's Next?
The Finance Officer will continue to support financial management and compliance for CRI projects, ensuring that they align with Mercy Corps' strategic goals. The role will involve ongoing collaboration with program and operations teams to enhance financial oversight and reporting. As the CRI expands its efforts to build community resilience, the Finance Officer will play a key role in managing budgets and financial resources. The team will also focus on identifying new funding opportunities and strengthening partnerships with donors and stakeholders to sustain and expand the initiative.
