Matias Augusto Travizano, a 45-year-old Argentinian tech CEO, tragically fell 3,000 feet to his death while descending Mount Shasta in northern California. Travizano had successfully summited the 14,162-foot peak on September 12 and was descending via the Clear Creek Trail, a non-technical route, with two strangers. During the descent, Travizano and one of the strangers became stranded on the steep and icy Wintun Glacier at an altitude of 13,500 feet. In an attempt to reach safer ground, Travizano lost control during a slide down the glacier, striking a boulder and losing consciousness. After regaining consciousness, he slipped again and fell out of sight. His body was later found at 10,200 feet by a California Highway Patrol helicopter unit.
