What's Happening?
The agricultural machinery storage depot in Cap-Haitien, Haiti, has undergone significant rehabilitation, marking a major step in supporting local agriculture. The Northern Departmental Directorate of Agriculture (DDAN) officially handed over the completed
facilities, which had been in disrepair for over 15 years. This project was part of the Green Transition and Reintegration Project for Deported Migrants, funded by the French Embassy and managed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and DDAN. The rehabilitation included restoring the garage and related infrastructure, creating over 10 direct jobs. This initiative aims to support farmers across the department's 19 communes and enhance agricultural administrative infrastructure.
Why It's Important?
The rehabilitation of the agricultural machinery depot is crucial for strengthening Haiti's agricultural sector, particularly in the Northern Department. By improving infrastructure, the project supports local farmers, enhancing their capacity to produce and contribute to food security. The creation of jobs through this initiative also addresses unemployment, providing economic opportunities for the community. Furthermore, the project reflects a commitment to sustainable development and the reintegration of deported migrants, aligning with broader goals of social and economic inclusion. This development could serve as a model for similar projects in other regions, promoting agricultural growth and resilience.
