What's Happening?
Esh-Tech, an Israeli startup based in Omer, has developed Dronelight, a laser interception system designed to counter drone threats. The system is capable of intercepting up to 30 drones per minute, using a unique method that emits hundreds of tiny beams
to target and destroy drones quickly. Dronelight is undergoing trials in Israel and internationally, and has received substantial support from the Israel Innovation Authority. The system's low energy consumption and cost-effectiveness make it suitable for wide deployment, including on armored vehicles and as a portable solution for troops in the field.
Why It's Important?
The development of Dronelight addresses the increasing threat of drone attacks, particularly from groups like Hezbollah. This technology enhances the defensive capabilities of military forces by providing a rapid and cost-effective solution to neutralize multiple drone threats simultaneously. The system's portability and low energy requirements make it adaptable for various military applications, potentially influencing defense strategies and procurement decisions. As drone technology continues to evolve, systems like Dronelight could play a crucial role in maintaining security and operational effectiveness on the battlefield.
What's Next?
Esh-Tech plans to present a first operational system by September and is working on integrating Dronelight with various platforms, including lightweight vehicles like Jeeps. The company is expanding its operations and workforce, with plans to move some staff to Modi'in. Continued trials and potential adoption by military forces could lead to further development and refinement of the system. The success of Dronelight may also encourage other defense-tech startups to innovate in the field of drone interception, contributing to advancements in military technology.
