What's Happening?
Penn State Extension is hosting a training session on January 22 in Chambersburg to help produce growers comply with the FDA's Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) rules. The training will cover good agricultural
practices, food safety, and the development of farm food-safety plans. Participants will learn about produce safety, worker health, soil amendments, and postharvest handling. Successful completion of the course will earn participants a certificate from the Association of Food and Drug Officials.
Why It's Important?
This training is vital for produce growers to ensure compliance with FSMA regulations, which aim to enhance food safety and prevent contamination. By equipping growers with the necessary knowledge and skills, the training helps protect public health and supports the agricultural industry's efforts to maintain high safety standards. Compliance with FSMA rules is crucial for growers to access markets and avoid potential legal and financial repercussions.
