What's Happening?
A study has introduced new reference intervals for nucleated red blood cell (NRBC) counts in neonates, utilizing the refineR algorithm. This development aims to provide more accurate physiological intervals by eliminating data contamination from neonates born
after unrecognized fetal hypoxia. The study, conducted with data from Intermountain Health, spans over four and a half years and offers narrower intervals with lower median and upper-limit values compared to previous versions. These new charts are expected to help clinicians better assess whether a neonate's NRBC count is normal or elevated, potentially improving outcomes for newborns at risk of hypoxia.
