North West Agriculture Enhances Food Security with Equipment and Livestock Packages

The North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has intensified efforts to combat food insecurity by delivering comprehensive agricultural support to communities in the City of Matlosana. This initiative is part of the provincial Accelerated Service Delivery Programme, known as Thuntsha Lerole. The department began by handing over garden equipment to a community food garden project in Jouberton, enabling local growers to expand production and improve yields. Additionally, departmental Extension Officers conducted a live demonstration at Ithuseng Primary School, teaching practical techniques for soil preparation, spacing, and watering. The department also distributed vegetable starter packages to 30 residents from Jouberton, Alabama, and nearby areas, equipping them with seedlings and basic inputs for productive backyard gardens. Furthermore, a military veteran in Sunnyside, Jouberton, received a goat starter herd to establish a viable small-stock farming enterprise.
