What's Happening?
Indian Railways has introduced a new Smart Workforce Management System called DRISHTI, which utilizes AI and blockchain technology to enhance worker verification processes. This initiative aims to address issues of ghost employee fraud by employing facial
recognition to verify employee attendance and securely storing these records on the blockchain to prevent tampering. The project, initially launched in Prayagraj, is a collaborative effort with ChainCode Consulting LLP, Billions Network, and the Aptos Foundation. It is expected to expand across the railway network, setting a new standard for public sector workforce management.
Why It's Important?
The implementation of DRISHTI represents a significant advancement in workforce governance for Indian Railways, which employs a large number of workers. By ensuring accurate employee verification, the system aims to reduce administrative burdens and prevent fraudulent activities, ultimately leading to more efficient operations. This initiative could serve as a model for other large-scale public sector organizations seeking to improve their workforce management systems. The use of blockchain technology also highlights a growing trend towards adopting secure and tamper-proof systems in various industries.
