What's Happening?
Intrepid Travel has announced a significant partnership with the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC), committing CA$500,000 over the next five years to enhance Indigenous tourism across Canada.
This collaboration aims to increase Indigenous-led experiences in Intrepid's Canadian itineraries, co-develop community-led products, and create new Indigenous-centered adventures. By 2026, Intrepid plans for 75% of its Canadian tours to include at least one Indigenous experience, with a long-term goal of 100% inclusion. The partnership was announced at the IMPACT conference in Victoria, B.C., highlighting the growing demand for Indigenous tourism. Intrepid will also open a new operational hub in Squamish, B.C., to support local hiring and expand travel experiences.
Why It's Important?
This partnership represents a significant step in promoting Indigenous tourism, which is increasingly sought after by travelers. It provides economic opportunities and cultural benefits to Indigenous communities, aligning with Intrepid's commitment to responsible travel. The investment supports ITAC's vision of making Canada a leader in Indigenous tourism by 2030. The collaboration sets a benchmark for the travel industry, emphasizing long-term investment and shared decision-making with Indigenous organizations. This initiative not only boosts tourism but also fosters cultural understanding and respect, contributing to the broader goals of sustainability and community empowerment.
What's Next?
Intrepid Travel's expansion in Canada includes opening a new operational hub in Squamish, B.C., in 2026, which will enhance local employment and broaden travel offerings. The partnership will see annual investments into the Indigenous Tourism of Canada Destination Fund and promotional activities to support Indigenous tourism businesses. As demand for Indigenous-led experiences grows, this collaboration is expected to create lasting economic and cultural benefits for Indigenous communities, setting a precedent for similar initiatives globally.
