The city of Westmorland has been awarded a total of $3,837,500 in grants to establish a new Emergency Operations Center. The funding includes a $2,737,500 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Utilities Service and an additional $1.1 million
from Congressionally Directed Spending Community Project Funds, announced by Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz. This initiative aims to remodel an existing building and construct new facilities to house the city's fire and police departments. The current fire department building, damaged beyond repair by Tropical Storm Hilary in 2023, is in violation of safety codes, with personnel currently operating out of FEMA trailers. The police department is similarly constrained, operating from a small space in City Hall.
