What's Happening?
The outbreak of the Cyclospora parasite has now spread to four more states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania have been added to the list of affected states, which already included
Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia. The outbreak has been linked to contaminated produce, with Taylor Farms de México issuing a voluntary recall of shredded iceberg lettuce. The CDC has confirmed 1,947 cases of infection, though the actual number may be higher, with reports suggesting over 12,000 cases, particularly in Michigan. The outbreak is not limited to lettuce, as some cases in North Carolina have been associated with parsley and cilantro.
