What's Happening?
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has resumed the registration of farmers after a five-month hiatus due to technical issues. The online system, which provides farmers with identification cards and access to services and subsidies,
is now operational. The program aims to offer chemical fertilizers, seeds, subsidies, and service management to registered farmers. Currently, 1.737 million farmers are being re-registered, with plans to include the remaining farmers soon. The system, coordinated with local levels nationwide, identifies genuine farmers and maintains integrated data, including land area cultivated and produce harvested. According to the 2078 Agriculture Census, there are 4.13 million farmers, with 2.393 million already included in the list.
Why It's Important?
Resuming farmer registration is crucial for ensuring that farmers have access to necessary resources and support. The system facilitates the distribution of subsidies and services, which can significantly impact agricultural productivity and sustainability. By maintaining accurate records and data, the ministry can better manage resources and tailor support to meet farmers' needs. This initiative supports the agricultural sector, which is vital for the economy and food security. It also helps in identifying genuine farmers, ensuring that subsidies and services reach those who need them most. The program's success can lead to improved agricultural practices and increased production, benefiting both farmers and consumers.
