The U.S. Coast Guard celebrated the graduation of its inaugural class from the newly established Training Center Birmingham-Southern. Twenty-nine students from the Leadership and Management School (LAMS) completed their training, marking a significant
milestone for the facility which opened in June. The former Birmingham-Southern College campus, which ceased operations in 2024 due to financial difficulties, has been repurposed as a vital training hub for the Coast Guard. This move includes the relocation of the Coast Guard Force Readiness Command (FORCECOM) from Norfolk, Virginia, and the Leadership Development Center from New London, Connecticut, to Birmingham. U.S. Representative Terri Sewell, D-Birmingham, and Mayor Randall Woodfin attended the graduation ceremony, highlighting the local and national significance of this new training center.
