What's Happening?
The British Society of Paediatric Dentistry (BSPD) has unveiled a new mission statement and strategy for 2026 to 2029, specifically designed to be child-friendly. This initiative marks the first time the BSPD has issued a version of its mission statement aimed
at children and young people. The statement is presented as a bright and modern infographic, using simple language and fun icons to ensure accessibility for all children, including those who are neurodivergent. The BSPD's overarching mission is to enhance paediatric oral health, reduce oral health inequalities, and support the delivery of high-quality, accessible oral health care for children and young people in the UK. Dr. Oosh Devalia, BSPD President, emphasized the importance of communicating the Society's goals in a way that children can understand, aligning with one of their mission aims.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of a child-friendly mission statement by the BSPD is significant as it aims to improve communication and engagement with young audiences regarding oral health. By making the information accessible and understandable, the BSPD hopes to foster better oral health practices among children, potentially reducing oral health inequalities. This approach could lead to more effective prevention strategies and improved health outcomes for children across the UK. The initiative also highlights the importance of inclusivity, ensuring that all children, regardless of their cognitive abilities, can benefit from the Society's guidance and resources.
