What's Happening?
Australian Geographic Travel has introduced its first international tour offerings with two birding expeditions across New Zealand's North and South Islands. These 10-day tours, led by New Zealand birding expert Oscar Thomas, mark a significant expansion
for the conservation-focused travel company. The North Island tour includes visits to diverse ecosystems and predator-free sanctuaries, offering opportunities to see species like the North Island brown kiwi and the unique wrybill. The South Island tour features pelagic crossings and encounters with rare birds such as the critically endangered black stilt. Each tour is limited to seven guests, ensuring personalized experiences. The tours are priced from $6,490 and $7,190 per person, respectively.
Why It's Important?
This expansion by Australian Geographic Travel highlights a growing trend in conservation-focused tourism, emphasizing educational and meaningful travel experiences. By venturing into New Zealand, the company aligns with global conservation efforts and caters to a niche market of birding enthusiasts. This move could influence other travel companies to adopt similar conservation-oriented approaches, potentially boosting eco-tourism and raising awareness about wildlife preservation. The tours also support local economies by promoting tourism in New Zealand's conservation sites.
