What's Happening?
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (N.C. A&T) is launching a Ph.D. program in bioengineering, expanding its existing undergraduate and master's offerings. The program will feature two concentrations: neurotechnology and neural
engineering, and molecular, cellular, and systems engineering. This initiative aims to produce highly skilled researchers in biotechnology and medicine, supporting the university's goal of achieving a Research 1 Carnegie Classification by 2028. This classification requires significant research expenditure and the awarding of numerous research doctorates annually.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of a bioengineering Ph.D. program at N.C. A&T is a pivotal development for the university, enhancing its research capabilities and academic prestige. As the first public historically Black college or university (HBCU) to offer such a program, N.C. A&T is positioned to lead in producing diverse, highly qualified researchers in critical scientific fields. This move not only strengthens the university's academic offerings but also contributes to the broader scientific community by addressing the need for skilled professionals in biotechnology and medicine.
