Charles A. Swan, a respected educator and community member, passed away on February 17, 2026, at the age of 91 in Chicago. Born on November 3, 1934, in Chicago's Back of the Yards neighborhood, Swan was a graduate of St. Augustine Elementary School and Tilden
Technical High School. He was actively involved in student council, sports, and choir during his school years. Swan met his wife, Mary Carol Kolasa, while singing in a church choir, and they married in 1956. He worked as a typesetter while studying at DePaul University and later taught math at DuSable High School for 29 years. In addition to his teaching career, Swan managed Talman Federal Savings and consulted for Lasalle Talman Bank. He was also a dedicated volunteer, serving as treasurer for Queen of the Universe Parish. Swan's love for Chicago's cultural offerings and his passion for music, particularly Catholic liturgical music and opera, were well-known among his family and friends.
