Network Rail has introduced a significant revamp of train timetables across the country, marking the most substantial changes in over seven years. The update promises faster journeys and increased services,
particularly benefiting the East Coast Main Line. The changes include a reduction of 15 minutes in travel time between London King's Cross and Edinburgh, and 10 minutes between Edinburgh and York. The initiative follows a £4 billion investment over the past decade aimed at improving connectivity between Scotland, North East England, Yorkshire, and London. LNER, one of the operators using the line, described the changes as 'transformational' and anticipates running 10,000 additional services annually. The update also introduces a new hourly fast service between Leeds and Sheffield by Northern, and more services for Chester, Wrexham, and Swansea by Transport for Wales. However, some routes will see reductions, such as Avanti's services between Blackpool and London.
