Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) has announced that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the University of Memphis will receive a total of $805,047 in grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is set
to receive two grants: one for $416,250 from the National Cancer Institute for pancreatic cancer research, directed by Dr. Christopher Vakoc, aimed at identifying new cellular signaling pathways for novel therapeutics. The second St. Jude grant, totaling $79,780 from the National Institute on Aging, will support Alzheimer’s disease research under the direction of Dr. Jay Michael Yarbro. The University of Memphis will receive a grant of $309,017 from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute for research on wearable sensing devices for precision COPD risk prediction, led by Dr. Maryam Karimi of the School of Public Health.
