What's Happening?
Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt, a Chinese mining company, is set to commence lithium sulphate production at its newly established processing facility at the Arcadia Mine in Zimbabwe by the first quarter of 2026.
The $400 million investment is part of Zimbabwe's strategy to enhance local mineral processing and industrialization. The facility is expected to produce over 60,000 metric tons of lithium sulphate annually, although the exact output will depend on the plant's configuration. This development follows the company's previous operations at the Arcadia Mine, where it has been producing lithium concentrate since July 2023, exporting 400,000 tons in 2024.
