What's Happening?
Bean Beanland, previously the director for growth and external affairs at the Heat Pump Federation, has assumed a consultancy role at the newly formed Heat Pump Association UK (HPA UK). This new trade body is a merger of the Heat Pump Association, Ground
Source Heat Pump Association, and the Heat Pump Federation, aiming to represent the entire heat pump sector. The association has launched an interim website and plans to expand member services by the second quarter of the year. Charlotte Lee has been appointed as the CEO, supported by Olivia Smalley and Chloe Davis in policy and communications roles. The association is co-chaired by Mark Wilkins and Laura Bishop, with Tom Hayes MP serving as the patron. The merger is seen as a strategic move to unify the sector's voice and enhance its role in the UK's energy transition.
Why It's Important?
The formation of HPA UK signifies a significant consolidation in the heat pump industry, which is crucial for advancing the UK's energy transition goals. By unifying the sector under one body, the association aims to streamline advocacy efforts and improve the industry's influence on policy-making. This could lead to increased adoption of heat pump technology, which is essential for reducing carbon emissions and achieving sustainability targets. The involvement of government figures like Tom Hayes MP as patron underscores the political support for this initiative, potentially leading to more favorable regulatory environments and funding opportunities for the sector.
What's Next?
HPA UK plans to roll out expanded member services in the coming months, which could include training programs, industry standards, and advocacy initiatives. The association's leadership will focus on integrating the supply chain to enhance the deployment of heat pumps across the UK. As the sector grows, there may be increased collaboration with government bodies to secure funding and policy support. The co-chairs and vice-chairs are set to lead the association until 2027, with a transition plan in place for leadership continuity until 2029.
