What's Happening?
Cyprus is set to begin supplying natural gas to Europe by March 2028, as announced by the country's energy minister, Michael Damianos. This development comes as the EU seeks alternative energy sources due to geopolitical tensions, including the war in Ukraine.
The Cronos natural gas field, developed by TotalEnergies and Eni, will be the first East Mediterranean deposit to supply Europe. A pipeline will connect Cronos to Egypt's Zohr field, with gas being liquefied at Egypt's Damietta facility for transport to Europe. The project is valued at approximately $2 billion.
