Japanese Project Achieves 98% Reduction in Methane Slip on Bulker

The project utilized a methane oxidation catalyst system developed by Hitachi Zosen and Yanmar Power Technology, which is installed on the exhaust pipe to oxidize methane and reduce emissions. Initial land-based tests achieved a 93.8% reduction, but onboard trials on the vessel Reimei, a Panamax coal carrier, reported a 98% reduction in methane slip. These results were verified by ClassNK and reviewed by NEDO, indicating promising advancements in environmental technology.
