What's Happening?
The Global Fashion Agenda (GFA) has announced the Circular Fashion Partnership: Türkiye, a new initiative aimed at developing a circular textile system in Türkiye by recycling post-industrial textile waste.
This initiative, set to begin in early 2026, will establish waste management systems in factories, enhance traceability, and connect manufacturers with recyclers. The program is part of the Global Circular Fashion Forum and builds on successful models implemented in Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Indonesia. Türkiye, a major apparel manufacturing hub, is well-positioned to scale textile-to-textile recycling due to its integrated industry and proximity to the EU.
Why It's Important?
This initiative is crucial as it addresses the growing issue of textile waste, which has significant environmental impacts. By promoting circularity in the textile industry, the program aims to reduce dependency on virgin materials and landfill use, contributing to sustainability goals. The initiative also aligns with increasing regulatory pressures to reduce waste and emissions, positioning Türkiye as a leader in sustainable textile practices. This could enhance the country's competitiveness in the global market and serve as a model for other regions.
What's Next?
Throughout 2026, the Circular Fashion Partnership: Türkiye will engage stakeholders through various activities, including waste management assessments, training, and policy dialogues. The program aims to foster local collaboration and innovation, supporting Türkiye in future-proofing its textile ecosystem. Brands producing in Türkiye are encouraged to participate, which could lead to broader industry adoption of sustainable practices.
