A $209 million battery energy storage system (BESS) near Armidale, New South Wales, has received approval for construction. The 150 megawatt/437 megawatt-hour battery will support around 60,000 homes during peak power times. The project will create 100
construction jobs and provide over $2.5 million to the Armidale Regional Council for local community projects. Developer Valent Energy Developments will contribute $1.275 million through a Voluntary Planning Agreement and an additional $1.275 million over the project's lifespan. The battery is part of New South Wales' growing network of BESS, crucial for transitioning to clean energy as coal-fired power stations retire.
