What's Happening?
Massachusetts General Hospital has received a significant grant from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) to develop genomic medicines for rare vascular diseases. The grant, part of the THRIVE program, aims to create a scalable gene-editing
platform to treat severe genetic vasculopathies such as Multisystemic Smooth Muscle Dysfunction Syndrome and Generalized Arterial Calcification of Infancy. The initiative, known as VESSEL, focuses on delivering durable therapies directly to vascular cells, potentially offering one-time treatments for multiple diseases. This project involves collaboration among various research institutes and aims to reduce development timelines and costs, ultimately expanding patient access to these therapies.
